I've got the exact oposite problem using latest dapper: g-p-m keeps notifying me my battery is charged. Note that the icon is hidden (because it's set to only appear when (dis)charging) while it does this.

Clicking on the notification's close button doesn't make the problem go away.

I've got the exact same issue as Mathieu. It happened with todays update. It's extremely annoying to have a notification appear every few seconds. No display setting alters anything, if I hide the icon, the notification just appears in the lower right instead.

I spot two problems, one with your hardware, and one with g-p-m. Your transition from 99->100 happens a long time before your battery reports itself as "charged", and if the battery is marked as charging, then the last warning is cancelled, and the warning *could* in theory repeat. I don't see that as responsible for the repeated dialogues, I see my error probably as the culprit:

In src/gpm-manager.c (battery_status_changed_primary) there is:

but we are return'ing after doing the notification, rather than saving the value.

Get rid of that extra "return", and that should fix all the problems.

I'm not sure why more people are not hitting this, myself included.
I'll test this very well, and then commit to gnome cvs.

Maybe this comment is completely useless, but maybe it helps:

Yesterday a similar thing happened to me:
* Battery was fully charged
* Notification pops up
* Icon stil showing the lightning, so still charging
* /proc/acpi/battery/C138/state said charging state: charged
* Notification re-appears every x seconds (x being around 45-60)

Killing + restarting gnome-power-manager 'solves' it.

I just popped the Dapper Flight5 live-cd into the laptop and g-p-m still continues to notify me that the battery is fully charged.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but this is a regression because older versions of g-p-m didn't show this behaviour and worked fine.

I had the same problem (dapper rc, vaio z1rsp)
It was so disturbing, I disabled notify in gpm via gconf, then only the gpm icon blink.

But, now, I've found the solution !
My charger was not strong enough to maintain the charge of my double capacity battery.
The floating in the notification appeared only during a cpu sollicitation or at ~99% of charge.

I've receive a new charger compatible (same voltage), but with 1A more.

And now, gpm is quiet, and the estimation time (charge/discharge) is good.
Then, in my case, gpm said to me : "you have to change your charger"
Maybe, gpm and hal are more accurate then before (I began whith hoary on this laptop)

Hope this can help...
