Bug Description

Binary package hint: kubuntu-default-settings

The new usplash theme, intended to fix the problem with stretching on unsupported display resolutions, causes the Kubuntu logo to be stretched vertically instead of horizontally. This does not occur with the Ubuntu splash screen, which is displayed properly. My system is set up both with the correct resolution in the usplash configuration file and a vesafb framebuffer set up at native resolution.

@Michael
Tell me the output of the command:
cat /proc/cmdline
Can you try to remove vesafb on the kernel command line?

Here is the kernel boot line:

BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-8-generic root=UUID=e6eb47ad-7c61-42d3-830f-928a7c1b3bc0 ro quiet splash video=vesafb vga=0x0369

I have tried taking out the part about vesafb. If I do this, the image is not stretched, but it is pixelated as if it was expanded from its original size. Also, with vesafb off, the Ubuntu usplash theme is stretched horizontally the same way it was before the update.

I put new usplash theme in my ppa for testing:

It seems to work in my system and it solves this issue.

Michael, can you try to install and test?

@Whomever sponsors this upload
Please don't forget to push the fix to bzr and then sponsor bzr when you upload! There was a semi-important fix in there that I was expecting to go up last upload. https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-members/kubuntu-default-settings/ubuntu

Jonathan,

ah, sorry, I didn't know this. Can you please add a Vcs-Bzr: field to debian/control, so that it's actually visible that this is in bzr? Also, as ubuntu-core-dev I'm not allowed to push into this branch (since -core-dev isn't a member of kubuntu-members). Would you mind integrating Alessandro's fix into bzr, and prepare the changelog, etc., and I just sponsor directly from bzr?

Alternatively I can also put up my own branch with the changes, and ask one of you to merge/pull it back.

Sure. I can sponsor it and add the Vcs-Bzr: field. It's no problem. :)

Maybe ubuntu-core-dev should become a member of kubuntu-members too...

Okay, it's all pushed to bzr. Thanks in advance for sponsoring it.

Thanks, Jonathan. Can you please change UNRELEASED->jaunty and do a debcommit -r, so that the bzr branch is consistent with the uploaded package?

Uploaded.

kubuntu-default-settings (1:9.04.14) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Always ask to restore konqueror session to prevent infinite crash loops
  * Add a Vcs-Bzr: field to debian/control so that people can actually be expected

  [ Alessandro Ghersi ]
  * Merge usplash/usplash-theme-kubuntu.c with Ubuntu, usplash theme is stretched
    vertically (instead of horizontally) (LP: #339386)

  [ Guillaume Martres ]
  * Removed kpatrc, hardcoding the default card theme is no longer needed and
