Can't link an existing product to a project

Bug Description

I just registered the Mozilla project, and then tried to say that the Firefox product was part of it. Launchpad incorrectly invited me to re-enter all Firefox's information when it already knows very well what Firefox is, and then gave me the error "firefox is already in use by another product". No, it isn't.

The form for linking a product to a project should have radiobuttons for "an existing product" (the default) and "a new product I'm registering now". If you choose to add an existing product and you are that product's maintainer, it should Just Work; otherwise Launchpad should e-mail the maintainer of the product with a link to a page where they can confirm the relationship.

You're right. Maybe you have enough time to tackle this as an exercise once the Malone simplifications have landed?

Changed in launchpad:
assignee: nobody → mpt
status: Unconfirmed → Confirmed

If you go to firefox and choose "Edit Product Details", it looks like you should be able to set the associated project.

That should get the job done, but it makes the user think about the problem from the opposite direction.
