grub failed to install

I also notice in the boot that the PMCIA never gets confirmed nor does COMMON UNIX PRINT SYST CUPSD.

Could you please attach /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman to this bug, using the "Add Attachment" link on the bug's web page? Thanks in advance.

I would do as you ask if I knew where that log was. I have searched for with
G_Desktop and XP's own search device. If it's gotta be found by KUBUNTU,
then that's gonna be a problem.

Let me include a c/p of this problem I am having that I posted on a techsite
the other day so you can get a good idea what's happening:

Part #1,

I will devote a 5.1g hdd on my eid/card to the install and make it dual-boot
with XP-Pro. This puts 10 hdds on this system...gotta be careful of
overloading the PSU.

I tried to install Kubuntu on it, but GRUB failed to install 6 times.....I
sent a log to Kubuntu research/bug_reports and they will get back to
me...but I think it looks like it might be better to install that version
after I get some time in the Linux environment.

For now, I think I'll sit on Kubuntu, and just run Knoppix here.

Now I have two puters running Linux stuff on dual-boots. I like them both,
but yes, there's a difference with the processor speeds. Even though I am
running right now on a live-disc for Kubuntu, it is a lot faster on this
Enermax/SOYO unit, as compared to the Dell/P III with the full install.

I think I have to change the font defaults in the both of them though...this
letters are 'way too small.

BTW: the Dell while in XP cannot see the hdb where Mepis is installed. I
wonder if that's gonna be the case here too on Kubuntu. My vid card here
(NVIDIA GeForce FX5500 is running just fine, although there was a slight
shift in the centering of the screen that was very easy to correct
here...it'll probably be the other way when I boot XP too.

So far, I am very happy with both of these Linux systems...they are
intuitive unless the sound card here is a little confusing too...I will see
later when I do the install.

I recommend that all who have shied away from either of these distros (more
L-Talk) to at least *try* the live-cd versions that can be downloaded from
places on the net. You won't be sorry.

I've decided that Knoppix Live! is not the program I like.

It appears to be limited by my inspection, and since I don't want to have
this puter (Enermax/SOYO) with *no* XP install as a dual-boot with it, I
will perhaps dismiss it entirely. I am willing to mail my second copy of the
Knoppix-Live! cd if anyone wants it.....I only need one copy for archive
files.

Running it on live version is ok, but not what I want to do.

Since I want to have the duality factor as a primary consideration, I hope
my bug report to Kubuntu gets some assist. I like the way Kubuntu looks and
feels as a "live", and want to install it as a dual-boot if I can get the
GRUB problem straightened out. I have sent a bug report to Kubuntu...let's
hope they respond soon.

I really want to run Kubuntu.....

*If Jen or someone (Chill?) is looking on, I need to know what they think
about my using the 5.1g hdd on an eide expansion card for the root of
Kubuntu...is this the reason why I cannot get GRUB to install?

I've removed all the RAID stuff and gone to JBODS, and even pulled a few
hdds outta the tower too. I am running XP on root C drive, data on d and h,
and I've set aside k for Linux/Kubuntu. K runs thru an ULTRA expansion card
plugged into the mob...

That's more than one year since the last comment.
What is your current status with Ubuntu and this SOYO SY333 motherboard based computer?
