Bug Description

I have a compaq presario v2410ca (v2000z series).

usplash is displayed wrong. The logo is cut off and it does not fill the screen. I will include a screenshot shortly.

My screen is 14" Widescreen with a 1280x768 resolution.

Could you please provide the contents of /etc/usplash.conf ?

No problem.

# Usplash configuration file
xres=640
yres=480

Should I try setting it to my screens native res?

Ah well thats much better.

1280x768 looked a little off so I tried 1024x768 which looked great.

Thanks for that fix.

Just one question.

Will it be able to auto-detect what resolution to use in the future?

It's supposed to at install time, so I'll have to look into that.
1280x768 and 1024x768 should have given identical results (since it
doesn't support widescreen mdoes)

Well at 1280x768 everything seemed to be smaller. 1024x768 seems to fit the screen better. It takes up for space on the screen.

Same problem on a 1280*1024 lcd screen. And also fixed by putting the correct values in /etc/usplash.conf :).

Only remains a strange problem : just before starting gdm, display becomes completely distorted (see attached screenshot ; the white circle is the camera flash, i forgot to disable it).

I can confirm this bug.. Same contents of /etc/usplash.conf... and same solution.

It's on a Ati radeon 9200se

I know why it's not detecting properly at fresh install - it needs a tasksel change which I'm discussing with joeyh before I can fix it, though.

I also have a problem I described here (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/60129/comments/2)

"I have this also, halfway during the boot, my screenresolution changes or something, because i see at the top of my screen the normal ubuntu logo, but at the bottom of the screen, I can see the half of the upper part. It's hard to describe, but I guess it has something to do with gdm starting and messing up the usplash screenmodes..."

The corrupted display will be fixed in usplash 0.4-25 by properly refusing to display a theme that has no pixmaps fitting within the requested resolution (this will just cause it to drop back to text mode instead unless the theme is changed to add 640x480 or 640x400 entries). The proper fix for usplash's resolution detection at install time will take me a little longer to arrange.
