Apps are listed and even installable via URI activation. The code to actually trigger this from Unity has not landed in trunk yet (but is in lp:~unity-team/unity/file-browsing)

Keeping this bug open to account for the extra API to support the SC sending a request to highlight an application in the apps. view / panel once it has been installed.

Mikkel, why did you change my original title and description? In doing so, you completely changed the issue at hand and introduced a new user experience that is not present in the current design. If you feel that changes should be made to the user experience, please file a separate bug and assign it to me so I can discuss it with you, document it, and get you enough design information to implement it to a high design standard.

David, I just felt that the title was too "meta" to be useful and that it somehow indicated that it was a duplicate of bug #610382 or that we didn't integrate with S-C at all. I changed it in order to reflect the remaining work item(s) on this bug (see dbarth in comment #2).

Regarding the user experience I listed it was merely an upshot of what mpt had talked to us about (which is afaik not documented anywhere). Or maybe we have dropped this feature - in which case I think we can close this bug?

The current status is that we 1) Show stuff from S-C and 2) Trigger S-C showing the app in question if you click something from the Available group. This clearly covers the description of this bug I think.

What is missing to complete the integration is (which may or may not belong under this bug):

 a) Visual specs and impl of how apps from S-C should be rendered in Unity
 b) Visual specs and impl of how exactly we should draw attention to newly installed apps

Depending on a lot of stuff we may not have time to finish b) for Maverick though.

The title could be less ambiguous, but the description is precise enough -- at the time I reported the bug, searching in the applications place didn't return results from the Software Center. This is not a general bug aimed at all planned at future Software Center integration.

There is a separate bug reported for (a) and (b) is not scoped for Maverick.

Another item I see missing here is whether we should support app installation by dragging an Available app to the launcher. I could not find it in the spec, but have heard it mentioned quite a lot here and there...

If we want a separate bug for that, or if we want to punt it, then we should close this bug I think. What are you thoughts on this David?

Yes, please file a separate bug for that. It is deliberately absent from the
10.10 spec.
