Bug Description

Binary package hint: acpi

in a recent fresh edgy install, suspend-to-ram doesn't work on my dell latitude d820, at least not out of the box. If gnome-power-manager is running, neither the gnome "suspend" functions nor the "StandBY" key have any effect when pressed. If, however,I do a killall gnome-power-manager, a suspend does take place, though there are a suspicious number of LED lights left on and the power light doesn't do the soft cycle on-and-off that it should when the machine is in the suspend state (S3 I think).

updating my dapper install to edgy broke acpi more completely, so that suspend-to-ram results in a crash.

gnome-power-manager elements of this bug fixed in recent dailies (october 5 2006). suspend-to-ram now takes place, but appearsto be complete as described above: bluetooth indicator and number lock/capslock lcd's still illuminated.

acpi-support is a collection of scripts. Machine hangs are kernel issues.

Just some additional information:

I had the same issue on my Latitude D820, when I first tried to install kubuntu (64bit edition), both with dapper and edgy.

I tried the 32 bit version of edgy a few days later and there at least suspend to ram worked out of the box (haven't tried suspend to disk).

Btw: /usr/share/acpi-support/Dell Inc..config seems to miss an entry for the D820.

I also had the same problem on an HP Compaq NX6110.
Standby and Hibernation fails.
Kernel points out to update IPW2200 driver. I found this on /var/log/messages.

I use Edgy, Kernel Ver: 2.6.17-11-386

I found a workaround for broken sleep in edgy. BTW - this also exists in Fiesty (kernel 2.6.20-15-386).

so the workaround is to install the package "powersaved" . This will remove the package "powernowd".

I found this at:

http://www.digg.com/linux_unix/Put_your_laptop_to_sleep

My hardware is mentioned above -compaq nx6110.

so, I will report this bug also under powesaved.

Hi Matt, now that the 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon release of Ubuntu is out, we were wondering if you can still reproduce this issue. Could you please download and try the new version of Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and report back your results. If the issue is still present in the new release, please attach the following information:

* uname -a > uname-a.log
* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment. For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.
