Bug Description

Precise, Ubuntu-server AMD64, under KVM virtIO. Installing the ISO as a encrypted LVM (whole disk) fails with "unsafe space detected". Nevertheless, the single swap space created is under the encrypted LVM space.

Tested with the 20111115 ISO, while trying to reproduce another issue (3.2 kernel loops with error messages after mounting a whole-disk encrypted LVM, still to open a bug on it).

I am still to reproduce with a current ISO (probably now with the 3.2 kernel).

20111121 ISO, with the 3.2 kernel, fails the same. Tagging regression-release.

This bug was fixed in the package partman-crypto - 49ubuntu1

---------------
partman-crypto (49ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
    - Skip loading partman-crypto-loop for now, as we don't support it in
      Ubuntu.
    - Disable partition erasing by default, as it's very slow and only of
      moderate value.
    - Warn that the passphrase cannot be recovered if lost.
    - Allow preseeding the first passphrase prompt and
      partman-crypto/weak_passphrase.
    - Add an "Activate existing encrypted volumes" option to the
      partman-crypto main menu.

partman-crypto (49) unstable; urgency=low

  * Merge from Ubuntu:
    - Allow crypto kernel modules to be built-in.
  * The fix for #642115 was actually working around a 'dmsetup table' output
format regression in libdevmapper 1.02.65 / lvm2 2.02.86, fixed in
libdevmapper 1.02.66 / lvm2 2.02.87. For robustness, handle both old
and new output formats (closes: #647540, LP: #892903).

You'll probably run across kernel bug 893395 when you try to test with this fix; it manifests as a failure to mount the /boot filesystem. I thought I'd mention it to save anyone else the effort of tracking it down.

Heh. Actually, it was while I was trying to track down 893395 that I stumbled on this one (and on bug 893302).
