Bug Description

Binary package hint: fortune-mod

Package fortune-mod suggests installing non-existing package xcontrib. It will install because xcontrib is not a prerequisite, it is just a suggestion. I don't know enough about the apt packaging system to submit a patch, but I think the only thing needed to correct it is changing the dependencies of the package.

This seems incorrect. The changelog entry for the introduction of this xcontrib suggestion says:

  * Added a menu entry for fortune. The X11 version of the menu entry
    uses xmessage, bringing in a new Suggests: on xcontrib.
    (closes: #46894)

Doesn't that imply that now we should suggest x11-utils (which contains xmessage) instead?

Thanks. I've dropped the Standards-Version change per this comment in the Ubuntu policy manual (http://people.ubuntu.com/~cjwatson/ubuntu-policy/):

  Ubuntu: Packages should not include the Ubuntu revision of the policy manual (e.g. "ubuntu1" in "3.8.0.1ubuntu1") in their Standards-Version field. This tends to create unnecessary diffs relative to Debian. For the same reason, Ubuntu developers should not generally change the Standards-Version field in packages originating in Debian.

I also added this bug number to the changelog.

  * debian/control:
    - Remove xcontrib from fortune-mod suggests and added x11-utils to satisfy
      xmessage dependency (LP: #99495).
