Not really.

I wrote, originally:

From Writer, I chose new->labels and then chose the Avery letter-sized template 5167 to print out some address labels.

After that, put a bit of test text in the "label text" box. Then I click on "new document" in this wizard dialogue ("Sheet" is already selected as the Format). At that point, a graphical layout page is shown, and it looks wrong, as I've described . I chose file, save and gave it a name.

What informatio are you looking for?
thanks,

Christopher Barrington-leigh, what I ment to request was a click-by-click example of what you did to create the attachment. What you provided, while understood, is not detailed enough to reproduce the problem. Could you please provide a recording of creating the document via recordmydesktop?

Problem description:
When creating labels using Menu "File" -> "New" -> "Labels", writer will ignore settings for horizontal pitch. Instead, the label areas are placed without separating space between them. This will render the output unusable, since the label areas of the writer document don't fit the labels.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open the label wizard using Menu "File" -> "New" -> "Labels";
2. Either select a predefined label layout that uses horizontal pitch, like "Avery Letter Size" -> "5167 Return Address", or create a custom label document and set a value for horizontal pitch greater than the label width. Optionally, add a value for vertical pitch to compare effects of both settings.
3. Hit "New Document". Optionally, activate display of Text Boundaries. This will show the grid of labels created by Writer.

Current behavior:
The label columns are placed side by side, without any space between them.

Expected behavior:
There should be a space between the label columns, depending on the horizontal pitch value. If the label width is set to 2cm (or inch or whatever), and the horizontal pitch is set to 2.5cm, there should be a 0.5 space between the label columns.

Platform (if different from the browser): Tested with LibreOffice 3.5.4.2 / Win7 64bit and same LO Version / Ubuntu 10.04.

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:10.0.5) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.5

This doesn't, answer my question about 12.04 which is the current LTS
release and should be currently (and for quite a while still) supported.

When will this fix go into the current LTS?

Oh, so LTS == Long Term Support, except where it's not?

What's the point of LTS if users have to put up with a "whole slew" of
issues which "doesnt qualify" to be fixed for (at minimum) the 2 years
it will be until another LTS is released?

OK. So debate about LTS aside, back to the issue at hand: how am I as a user of an LTS system supposed to be able to print labels given this bug?

Brian J. Murrell, because this does not fit the criteria for an SRU as previously documented, if you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please follow the instructions for "Requesting a Backport" at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports#Requesting_a_Backport .

It appears that the label positioning may be using width instead of pitch to position the label columns.
