spell checking doesn't work in kile

Bug Description

Binary package hint: kile

With a document open, go to Tools -> Spell Check. Kile then complains that it cannot find I(A)Spell and so the spell check cannot be run. This is odd, since it should use the KDE spell check system.

Possibly related to bugs #102568 and #102644 in that kile doesn't respect KDE settings.

I just closed and reopened kile, and this bug has vanished! I'm guessing that this bug only applies on first run of kile, and subsequently sorts itself out. I'll do some testing and post back on this...

The bug still exists as I've described in up-to-date Kubuntu gutsy. Version of kile currently in gutsy is 1:1.9.3-4.

Hello,

in Kile 2.0beta1 and later we have switched from the kile spell checker to the kate spell ckecher to get better results.

Bye,

According to this https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kile/+bug/102645/comments/3, the bug has been fixed in the latest version and will be solved when the next version either hits Gutsy via backporting or in 8.04 when the sync from debian comes.
Please correct me if wrong.

Is there the possibility to use the spelling check in Kile (gutsy version)?
Aspell is enough for my goals.

I've just verified it in Debian lenny using VirtualBox.
The spell checking works perfectly in Debian lenny with kile 1:1.9.3-4, but it doesn't work in Ubuntu 7.10 gutsy with the same version of kile.
Then I think this is an Ubuntu-related bug.
I hope this could help you to fix this bug as soon as possible.

I configured Aspell using "KDE Control Center" and now the spell-checker works.

Even after configuring Aspell, the spell-checker does not work in documents using iso-8859-1 encoding.

From the command line I can check files with non-default encodings. For example:

aspell --encoding=iso-8859-1 -lpt_BR check test.tex

Kile (or KDE?), however, will not pass on the encoding information. Only documents encoded with UTF-8 can checked. Otherwise, all words with non-ASCII character will all be tagged as misspelled.
