Bug Description

* Impact: gvfs leaks fds which leads to segfault and issues with the unity Dash

* Test case:
- use the unity dash and look at the number of fds in use
or
- watch if reports on https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/16193ad82fb29994e9821e3bd67933b10b5aa15e reduce/stop with the update

* Regression potential:
check that http browsing in nautilus/gvfs keeps working correctly (Unity dash uses it to display the icon for remote content, e.g music or videos)

Happened to me when I searched a very long string on music lens.

Maybe this is caused by several cancelled Gio.File.load_contents_async calls.

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Alexander, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libsoup2.4 into saucy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsoup2.4/2.42.3.1-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

Could anyone having the issue test if that's still a problem?

@Brian: is there a way to query e.u.c for the libsoup version of the recent 13.10 reports (the bug is reported against gvfs so the table of versions is not useful to determine if we still get reports with the new libsoup library)

There is a way to query the bucket for instances and then inspect their dependencies to see if they have the new version of libsoup2.4.

Looking at these 8 instances approximately 6 of them were fresh installs so it is unlikely that the system rebooted after installing the updates. Additionally, there have been many reports of this error since the package was put in -proposed so it seems likely that the bug is fixed. Finally, there are no reports of this in Trusty. Subsequently, I am marking this as verification-done.

Colin Watson (cjwatson) wrote : Update Released

The verification of the Stable Release Update for libsoup2.4 has completed successfully and the package has now been released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regresssions.

This bug was fixed in the package libsoup2.4 - 2.42.3.1-0ubuntu1

---------------
libsoup2.4 (2.42.3.1-0ubuntu1) saucy; urgency=low

  * New upstream bug fix version, fixes some hangs and ld leaks issues,
    that should resolve the issues where gvfsd-http ends up segfaulting
    (which happens often with the Unith dash) (lp: #1054081)
