Bug Description

I have a HP Pavilion dv8000 with a Geforce Go 7400. Every time I enable the nvidia driver, I inevitably get blue vertical lines going through my screen.

Here's a link with a screenshot I posted at LaptopVideo2Go:

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13410&st=0&gopid=52715&#entry52715

I can usually get the lines to show up when I play Chromium without fail.

Now, when I'm using the "nv" driver, my system is completely stable, and can run at 1440x900.

Can anyone help me, or at least tell me what's going on?

Thanks

M.

BTW, I have no interest in using Beryl or Compiz

Thank you for your bug report.

Mike:
Could youadd the output of
dpkg -l nvidia\* | grep ii
to this bug report?

ii nvidia-kernel-common 20051028+1ubuntu7 NVIDIA binary kernel module common files

Where you able to check out the screenshot of the problem? If not, I'll attach it here

BTW, I tried an older version of the nvidia driver when I tried the latest Elive CD, and all looks good 'til I use an app that requires GL "chromium", then the lines appear. It's brief, their appearance, but frequent when I'm using the nvidia driver. Don't know why it never happens with the "nv" driver... will continue to scratch my head about it until someone much smarter than me figures it out :D

Thanks

M

I couldn't see the vertical lines in the screenshot on one of my monitors but I do see them on another monitor. As you are using a mobile chipset does following any of the tips on http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/README/appendix-i.html help the issue?

Setting to needsinfo pending reply from Mike.

Changed in linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20:
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

(just for anyone else looking at this bug, the entirety of the previous screenshot is actually covered in small blue speckles in a roughly vertical configuration. Zoom into at roughly 300% magnification to make them more visible)

Does disabling agp by seting NvAGP to 0 as described on http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/README/appendix-d.html make any difference?

It's been determined that it's a motherboard issue with the gpu. I
noticed the same problem when I tried playing frozen bubble with the nv
driver enabled and the blue lines reappeared. Having seen that happen,
I decided that it's hardware issue rather than a software one, because I
would get the same lines using a different monitor. So right now, my
dv8000 is at HP getting fixed, I hope!!

Man, I miss my laptop and Feisty! :D

OK I'll leave this bug in needsinfo. Please close it if you laptop comes back and the problem is solved or set it back to unconfirmed if your laptop comes back and the fault is not determined to be hardware...
