Bug Description

==================================
SRU Justification:
Impact: vgabios.stdvga.bin is not present (for apparent consumption by grub2)
Development release: the Makefile was updated to build the vgabios.stdvga.bin
Stable release: same as development release
Test case:
  sudo apt-get install vgabios
  ls -l /usr/share/vgabios/vgabios.stdvga.bin
Regression potential: If there is a bug in the Makefile update, the existing roms could be wrongly built.
==================================

vgabios.stdvga.bin: file is missing in latest build

File can be built from sources available from http://git.qemu.org/?p=vgabios.git;a=summary

As attachment built binary files for fixing the package...

Could someone please add them to the package

Thanks!

Rubeosis

Thanks for this bug report. Could you please tell us which release you are seeing this in? The vgabios package does provide /usr/share/vgabios/vgabios.stdvga.bin on my raring laptop.

Could you also tell us exactly what you are trying to do? Does 'dpkg -l | grep vgabios' show the vgabios package as installed?

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server

vgabios package is installed, version 0.6c-2ubuntu1

According to the file list, only vgabios.bin and vgabios.cirrus.bin is included.

Thank you very much!

Hello Rubeosis, or anyone else affected,

Accepted vgabios into lucid-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vgabios/0.6c-2ubuntu1.10.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

I am sorry, I cannot test the build on a i386 system for I have only a productive AMD64 system on which I could install the package.

Confirmed that the bios is present.

Note that the /usr/share/qemu/ symlink to it does not exist. As the bug reporter wanted the link for use by grub, I think that should be fine. If it's a problem, I don'tmind doing another upload adding the file to debian/links.

Ubuntu Lucid is no longer supported on the desktop. Because of that should we drop the SRU for vgabios?

I don't think so. The vgabios is not just for desktop.

Why can this bug not be solved? Can I contribute to solve it?

You should be able to try this fixed package in proposed and see if it works for you. See Comment #4. In response to your comment #5.. it should be enough to try it on 32 or 64 bit.. You don't need to do both.
