Thanks for reporting this bug and help in making Ubuntu better. This is still present in Ubuntu 14.04 with Rhythmbox 3.0.1. I have filed a but upstream, but I think there may be a rationale behind this notification. Imagine that you are playing music, and you mute for some reason the music. If you close Rhythmbox, there will be music still playing in the background. But if there is not music playing Rhythmbox will close for good, so the notification is telling you that this is the case. It is different with Skype or Firefox, there's never anything going on in the background when you close them. I think this is what they are going to answer upstream about this bug.

That's indeed a slightly annoying issue, targetting to trusty as a SRU candidate (the fix has been commited in the upstream vcs)

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Alan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted rhythmbox into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/3.0.2-0ubuntu2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!
