Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

While installing Ubuntu (7.04 Feisty Fawn i386) using the Live CD, I got a crash notification concerning ubiquity. At the time, I was creating my user account. I had just started typing in a password when I got the crash notification. I was also importing some of my settings from a Windows XP Professional account into this Ubuntu Linux account.

What did you type in the username box on the Migrate Documents and Settings page?
Could you possibly run the installer again by typing `ubiquity -d` in a terminal window (to enable debugging information) and attach /var/log/installer/debug to this report?

Thanks!

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm still an Ubuntu newbie. I did get Ubuntu installed so if I run that command, it won't try to reinstall over my existing installation, will it? If it will just give you some needed debug information, I can do that when I get home. I just don't want to break the installation I have.

To answer your other question, at first I typed "Nick" into the username box, and it complained about the capital letter. I then changed it to "nick" and that worked OK. I was attempting to migrate data from an XP Pro account called "Nick". Some of the data was migrated and some data wasn't.

Let me know what that 'ubiquity -d' command will do, and I'll run it if it won't break my existing Ubuntu installation.

Thanks,
Nick

If you run it (in debug mode) and then hit cancel at the "confirm your installation choices" page, it *should not* make any changes to your hard drive. I cannot, however, guarantee that as anything is possible, but I cannot honestly see how it would modify your computer. Just make sure you don't press the install button.
