OK but, can you please point us to these "other solution" ? I hope they are as simple and easy as likewise-open (or at least well documented).

Likewise-open is a really simple way to join an AD. No need for config file and testing, it just work. And I don't want to use the pseudo "open" PowerBroker Open.

Also, I wonder, what is the problem of having likewise-open in the repo ?

@frederic-cote: thank you for bringing this up. I maintain a small school's tech and we rely on ubuntu due to its cost. I've only upgraded a couple of computers and cannot get any other "solution" to work. Likewise-open is a wonderful tool. Why can't we keep it until ubuntu builds in the feature (which is long overdue I might add)?

@frederic-cote: I found a solution that works well for me. I've posted the answer at http://askubuntu.com/questions/452904/likewise-open-14-04-other-easy-way-to-connect-ad/453111#453111

Hope this helps you.

I prefer to use solution available from the Ubuntu repository. So , PBIS and Centrify are out of the question. I will give a try to the "realmd - network authentication that use sssd" (look for the link in the Marc's post).

Probably won't be as easy as likewise but since I use a script to deploy my computer, it will be hard only on the first one :).

Maybe the PowerBroker solution will be available from the repository in the future (I hope).

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

This is really a shame... now that Windows XP ended is life cycle and with Ubuntu 14.04 desktop experience much more polished that earlyer versions and getting attention to many enterprise admins as an alternative to Windows. There is no easy way to make it part of an Active Directory domain...

LikeWyse was so simple to use and i realy think that is a mistake not to have it on Ubuntu oficial repositories...

At least there shloud be a simple way to connect an ubuntu desktop to an enterprise level AD...

Likewise Open was purchased in 2012 by BeyondTrust software and renamed to PowerBroker Identity Services Open: http://www.powerbrokeropen.org/

This project does support Ubuntu. There is a hidden "--oem oem1" build switch that looks to use Ubuntu-preferred paths, instead of "/opt/pbis". This should be investigated as a replacement.
