Bug Description

Binary package hint: restricted-manager-kde

Restricted Manager (both GNOME and KDE, the problem lies in the core) crashes on startup when some (not all) restricted drivers are needed on the system.
The problem lies in the lrm_driver.py handler, in the description() method.

Confirmed based on dupe and my own experience with it. Wireless works for me, but k-r-m does not.

I tried to reinstall the whole system from the kubuntu gutsy tribe 4 cd, and now restricted-manager-kde works perfectly. I think that some wrong update from feisty broke something in my previous install. Now there is no problem.

Thank you for your bug report and comments. However, I am afraid I'm not able to reproduce it. Is this still an issue with the latest updates for anyone? Do you know what restricted drivers does your system need?

Apport has just submitted information on this crash which occurred as KDE was loading. Before shutting down for the night last night, I upgraded to kernel version 2.6.22-10; this was therefore the first restart since that upgrade. I use the nvidia restricted driver.

Sadly restricted-manager-kde crashed again on my system, this time after the upgrade to kernel version 2.6.22-10-generic. I use the madwifi restricted driver, which is however loaded normally at boot.

  [ Martin Böhm ]
  * RestrictedManagerGtk.py: Replaced the idle_function pointer with a direct
    call to self.gtk_idle(). We do not need this indirection any more.
  * RestrictedManagerKDE.py: Fix crash in mouseClicked(). (LP: #131483)
  * Add libpythonize0 as a dependency for r-m-kde. (LP: #130737)
  * Moved the guidance-backends dependency from restricted-manager to
    r-m-core. (LP: #132581)

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * Turn the "description" handler property into a function. Properties are a
    pain when trying to call the parent method. (LP: #133218)
  * RestrictedManagerCommon.py: Do not give a "new drivers available"
    notification for drivers which are already enabled.
