Bug Description

Hi, how about adding '''crossfade support'''? It would be great to have that feature on song change and song start / stop, maybe with customizable timings :)

This ticket was migrated from the old trac: re #95

I absolutely agree, please add crossfading.

The newer versions of Rhythmbox (at least 0.11.2) also have crossfading.
Maybe the devs could use some of the code.

"Like" that fadeout and crossfade feature in Amarok.

I think that is very interesting. I'll be waiting for the feature release.

Really, please !

I was amazed to discover that the new Rythmbox supports Crossfading meanwhile Exaile doesn't...
It's really anoying to listen to a concept album and to have a Blank between each song...

Steal the rythmebox's code, it would be really great :)

Rhythmbox is written in C, while Exaile is written in Python, so it's not really possible to just copy their code. All you could really take is the basic idea (opening streams to two files at once, etc.) and apply it in python.

[1] is the Rb patch that enabled crossfade/gapless support. It's by no means trivial; I'd rather see this somehow implemented in GStreamer itself.

Is there any progress on this? the lack of crossfade support is the only reason I haven't switched to Banshee... please add this quickly!

Doing crossfade in gstreamer is non-trival. Idk about banshee, but I've done some initial design work on it for Exaile and while it's definitely doable it involves a significant redesign of the player code, largely because you can't use playbin to do crossfading. Given that for most users this is a fairly minor issue (less so than gapless at least, which is doable with playbin2), I wouldn't expect crossfading in Exaile before 0.3.1 at the earliest.

Please do not add songbird to bug reports. It is not in the repos nor will it be for a while, it has a while to go before it is added to repos. Last i heard there were some problems with it that will prevent us from adding it and expecting it to work.

I'd consider switching to Banshee if it had crossfading... it may not seem like a big deal, but it does make a difference.

Crossfading would really make Banshee a full fledged bad ass audio player. Just my 2 cents. :]
