Joe,
can you uncomment the Debug line #462 in /usr/local/src/ubuntu/bzr/ubuntu-gnome-default-settings/lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-gnome-logo/ubuntu-gnome-logo.script

And past the values its give when you reboot.

that should just be /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-gnome-logo/ubuntu-gnome-logo.script

I uncommented the Debug line, but don't see the output show up anywhere on the plymouth screen -- does it log to a file somewhere? I couldn't find anything in journalctl either...

Joe, it should up in the top left corner of the plymouth screen, although I noticed on my laptop sometimes I have to tab out to raw boot messages screen then back to plymouth for it to show up.

Yeah, it doesn't show up, and switching VCs back and forth doesnt appear to help it show up either -- could the .script file be being cached somewhere (inirtd?) and not getting picked up?

hmm all of the sudden both the debug text and the encryption password prompt decided to show up...

Joe, right, seems plymouth gets installed into initramfs when you do an encrypted install, and we don't currently update that.
