Had 2:57 remaining to complete the installation. (Kubuntu/Ubuntu are very new to me.)

Marking as incomplete. I assume that you didn't run out of hard disk space. I assume you have at least 384 MB of RAM or 256 MB of RAM and valid swap partition of 256 MB already created. I assume that you tried the Live CD first and it booted successfully and ran OK. There are many things that can cause ubiquity to fail. Many times it's a hardware limitation. Try installing with Alternate Installation CD.

George,

Are you able to reproduce this bug in Ubuntu 8.04? If so, can you please attach /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman from a failing install attempt following the directions in http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs ?

Thanks!

Exit code -11 is a segmentation fault; the only real way that can happen in this particular context is if there's been a problem reading from the CD. This is generally due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, rather than being an installer bug as such. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, or to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers).

(Sometimes, a hardware problem with the hard disk can also be at fault.)
