Description updated mentioning the lru_cache removal.

The attach operation doesn't work on non-LTS (tested kinetic, probably affects lunar too). The team is on it and a bug will be filed still.

Other comments I have are:

a) There is a change that says that unattached status sends virt type to the contract server now. Is that something we should consider updating some GPDR document about? Specially since it's in the unattached state

b) The logging change to json. Any particular reasoning for this? To help a developer story? Or a user story? The way this is now, an existing ubuntu-advantage.log file will end up with a mix post-upgrade: first portion will be normal text, and after the upgrade, it will be json. I'm not aware of log parsers looking at this, but maybe it's something to consider. I wondered about forcing a logrotate in postinst, so at least you would not have a mix of formats in the same log. Thoughts?

c) In esm-counts.cc, line 135, there is a cleanup of the apt config except if the config key is Acquire. In other places in the project, this check was replaced with an anchored regexp, so maybe this is something you will want to do here too in a later release.

d) Use of dpkg --compare-versions "lt" versus "lt-nl". The current postinst uses "lt" in a few places where the intention is to catch versions earlier than $now. When you use "lt", an empty "$2" will be treated as an earlier version, so a check like "$2" lt "27.14~" will always be true on fresh installs, since "$2" will be empty. I didn't review all such calls, only the new one for 27.14, and the functions it calls seem to behave fine in either case. In some other places in the postinst you do use lt-nl, so maybe it's on purpose that you are using "lt" this time, for some scenario I didn't see?

e) There is a migration of "notices" going on in postinst, but only of reboot notices. I wonder which other notices could be there that we are not migrating?

f) In postinst, in case the migration of the config file fails, there is a grep for "ua_config:". If it's still there in the config, then the migration failed, and additional instructions are given (besides what the python script might have printed already). Perhaps that grep should be anchored, like "^ua_config:", but I think this is minor. I was thinking maybe there could be a line like "#ua_config:", and this grep would catch it, but if the migration fails, there will definitely be *also* a ^"ua_config:", if I understood this correctly.

We are already working on the livepatch fix, and will properly create/link a bug with a 27.14.3 upload as mentioned. We will also try and file a bug (and fix it) for not using the local uaclient.conf, as pointed in the side discussion.

About the other comments:
a) We have filed a proper document to the legal team (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NqK1I8-iZ1LBR1rENaPHtFyXRTzgzAZCr_-px4ZseuM) and this has been reviewed, signed and sent. As no issue was raised, we think this is fine and matches the current policy. Legal probably did follow up their side if needed.

b) We have changed the format to JSON for our own better parsing of the logs. We are working on a 'revamp' on the logging schemes, and this was one of the first steps. This will help us process logs sent in bugs, for instance. From our perspective, the 'double format' is not a problem, as the team is aware of it and will be able to deal with that when inspecting the files. We prefer not to force the logrotate.

c) This is actually correct. The Python implementation of the apt_pkg.config object is flattened to a list (and the .clear method clears a list entry) so we need to check any configuration starting in "Acquire". In the C++ code we access the config as a tree. We look only at the root nodes of the config ('Acquire' being one of them), thus clearing any other "Acquire" entry living under any other of the nodes.

d) This mixed use is not intentional. We agree the -nl behavior would be preferred, but we think there is no need to change this now, given everything is working as expected. In the future, we intend to stop using dpkg to compare versions, using the apt_pkg module for that - when we implement that change, we can standardize the behavior (In the postinst we will keep calling dpkg and not the python code, just making sure behavior matches)

e) Reboot notices were picked to be migrated at best-effort because they are ephemeral and usually immediately important to be solved - enabling FIPS or RT, for instance, will require a reboot.
Other notices not shown (as, for instance, a contract change notice) are not urgent, and will appear again when the triggers for them will happen. Other notices, like auto-attach fails, will be brought back over time with new retries. f) We agree this is a problem, and this is minor; however, as we will need a .3 revision anyway, the team agrees this is worth fixing. We will create a bug for that and address it.

We have run the full ubuntu-advantage-tools integration test suite against the version in -proposed. The results are attached. All tests passed.

You can verify the correct version was used by checking the output of the first test in each file, which prints the version number as well as the output of `apt-cache policy ubuntu-advantage-tools`.
