Thank you for your response, I noticed that (as far as I can see) neither log file actually show your sound card listed, let alone initialized... What kind of sound card do you have? If it's integrated with your motherboard please indicate what motherboard you have also.

Just out of curiosity, you have been able to verify that the sound card is functional right?

Thanks,

Richard Seguin

i typed : aplay -l

and i get that:

card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC861VD Analog [ALC861VD Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

and another card.

--> but unfortunately i don t know if my sound card is integrated with the motherboard - by the way my computer is a laptop -

the sound card is functional : because i was reading one of the helps article and someone says that if i type aplay -l and have seen a card list so the card in there is functional

I know this issue can be frustrating, I am doing what I can to see if I can solve your problem...

Can you see if you have the linux-backports-modules installed for your kernel, if you don't have them installed can you install them, reboot and tell me if it resolved your problems?

Thanks,

Can I have an updated attachment of dmesg since you installed the linux-backport package, I am curious to see what the sound card initializes as... Have you tried playing sounds from other applications?

I am going to provide you with a link with some procedures that I want you to go through so we can have some more information about your hardware... If we still cannot come up with anything and we have the appropriate documentation I will create a bug report upstream for the kernel you have about this, it could be a bug with the driver itself.

Please include the information requested at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingHardwareDetection as separate attachments.

I have just consulted with some members from bugcontrol and the ubuntu-kernel team and they have requested for you to download this file:

http://hg.alsa-project.org/alsa/raw-file/tip/alsa-info.sh

run it and post the results...

Thanks for your patience in debugging this, I know there are a lot of requests on this...

Sorry about that, I didn't know there were extra instructions...

   1. ./alsa-info.sh --no-upload
   2. /tmp/alsa-info.txt will be generated. Attach this file to your bug report
   3. The alsa-info.sh script can either be run as 'bash alsa-info.sh' _or_ made executable and run as './alsa-info.sh'.

The attached file is what you had posted to pastebin... It's now up to the developers to take a look at the problem and see if they can fix it. My role was to triage the bug so enough information could be provided to the developers (bugs that are complete have the greatest chance of being looked at)

I own a F3S laptop myself and found a workaround/solution right here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=605990&highlight=82801H&page=2

It comes down to the following:

First install the latest version of Alsa (1.0.16 for Hardy Heron)
After that, you create a file in /etc/modutils called, for example, 'alsa' with this sequence of aliases and options:

alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
# module options should go here
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo

# OSS/Free
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

The most important is the line:
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo

For a secure success, add the line above in the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base too
If it doesn't exixt, create!

After you must restart. If you still have no sound, run 'alsamixer' and if necessary unmute all channel and set the volume.

Just adding the line

options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base worked for me (at least it seems to so far -- there is sound now, but I haven't checked running multiple sound applications).

There was no need to create any file in /etc/modutils

Hi Everyone,

This bug was reported a while ago and hasn't had any recent activity. Is this still an issue with the most recent Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release? You should be able to test using a LiveCD. Please let us know your results. For now I'm going to retarget this bug to the actively developed linux kernel package. During the Intrepid development cycle the linux-ubuntu-modules package was merged with the linux kernel package. Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, you are not using the most recent version of this package for your Ubuntu release. Please upgrade to the most recent version and let us know if you are still having this issue. Thanks in advance. As a result I am closing this issue for now, please feel free to open it again by marking it as "new" if your still having the issue.
