Bug Description

hi,
i used the configuration tool under system=> administration => printer menu
it found the good printer, so i continue with all the default choices

but at the end the program only proposed the foomatic/hpijs driver.... and this one is really not a good one (too slow, no recto/verso ...)
funnily for the HP laserJet 1022 (without N, that is exactly the same without network interface) there are more driver proposed and of course the better one : foomatic/foo2zjs

can someone correct that little problem (by suggesting the same drivers for all the 1022 printer)

and i confirm the 1022 driver work without problem for N or NW models

oh i forgot, this problem is under intrepid

Printer Information (connected via network cable)
Device URI: hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_1022n?ip=192.168.0.100
Model: HP LaserJet 1022n Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.7

Working with my notebooks and computers.

To use foomatic/foo2zjs ppd file:
shell>> sudo gunzip /usr/share/ppd/foo2zjs/HP-LaserJet_1022.ppd.gz

Then System-> Administration-> Printer
Change Model to: HP LaserJet 1022 Foomatic/foo2zjs (recommended)
You need specify this file /usr/share/ppd/foo2zjs/HP-LaserJet_1022.ppd

It works!

For changing from the default to an alternative driver you do not need to extract the PPD file manually.

Simply do

System-> Administration-> Printer

Right-click the icon of your print queue, in the window popping up click the "Change" button in the "Make and Model:" line. Then choose HP as the manufacturer and "LaserJet 1022" (without "N" or "NW") as the model. On the right hand side of the model selection screen choose the "foo2zjs" driver.

Jaunty comes with a new version of HPLIP, which ships PPDs for the LaserJet 1022 series for HPIJS with a proprietary HP plug-in. Once you download the plug-in with "sudo hp-plugin" on Jaunty, you get full support of your printer with a manufacturer-supplied driver. I will look into letting the "sudo hp-plugin" be run by system-config-printer if needed.

Till,
Aren't the drv:///hp-laserjet_1022n-hpijs-pcl3.ppd HP LaserJet 1022n Foomatic/hpijs and drv:///hpijs.drv/hp-laserjet_1022nw-hpijs-pcl3.ppd HP LaserJet 1022nw Foomatic/hpijs entries redundant since we are talking about the same printer model in different versions (local, network, wireless)? Removing the redundant entries would leave the user only the obvious LaserJet 1022 choice when manually setting up the printer and give him the choice between all possible drivers (foo2zjs, hpijs, gutenprint) for this printer.
