Have just spoken to the Sandbox project leader and he very much wants the new version of it in GetDeb. Please contact

This is an excellent project that is being widely used in education and I'd really like to see a .deb package of it. Can we re-open this bug please?

Subject: GetDeb Sandbox Permission

GetDeb has my permission, my blessing and my thanks for packaging Sandbox
into debian! I really hope it can make it into edubuntu, especially Sandbox
lite which follows a debian free license. Take care and thank you!

PS any links to the webpage would also be appreciated :D
PPS As a note we generally use the name Platinum Arts Sandbox Free 3D Game
Maker now

Hello - has anyone filed an ITP with Debian? Is anyone planning on working on this? I believe Sandbox (non-lite) would work for Debian non-free. Now would be a good time to do it too for Lucid. I'm available to help too.

I think the long-term aim of the devs is to get it into Edubuntu, which I think is an excellent plan - it's a great piece of educational game design software. Getting it packaged up and into GetDeb would be a good start to that process at the very least. It really needs to be much more widely available.

Thanks Rodney, The reason I asked is that I'm starting to work on the debian package, which will eventually make its way into Ubuntu and Edubuntu. I'll actually set up a bzr branch for it, and you'll be free to contribute/take whatever you need for the package:

Hello Christoph,

I've been working on Debian packaging for version 2.4 and just
contacted <email address hidden>, the packager for 2.3-1~rc1. I actually
have it nearly done, just some small details left. I'm not familiar
with the getdeb project, but are you intending to upload this to the
debian archives? I'd just like to avoid triplicating the effort into
this.

sandbox-lite is just the sandbox_client_fps with a reduced number of
packages/mods. I believe it is intended for debian "main"

the ITP I posted and the package I have is sandboxgamemaker, which is
the complete installation of 2.4 with all packages/data and the four
binaries: client_fps, client_ssp, client_rpg, server_fps. This package
is intended for "non-free." The only work left is cleaning up the man
files, a .desktop file, and the icon (all of which I plan on using
from Miriam's previous work). I have a bzr project for the packaging
(sandboxgamemaker-debian) but I have not pushed anything yet, if you'd
like I can push what I have while it's a work in progress.

I did not update the man pages.

Saw this got pinged in Ubuntu, so I'll post updates and place a debian watch on it.

The Debian package is in the sponsorship queue at:
http://wiki.debian.org/Games/Sponsors/Queue

and available in this ppa for karmic:
https://launchpad.net/~showard314/+archive/ppa

and source package (debian) is available at m.d.n:
http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=sandboxgamemaker

and package development is ongoing here:
https://launchpad.net/sandboxgamemaker-debian

See the debian bug for details as to the progression. I'm looking for a debian sponsor if anyone is available!
