Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdeutils

printer-applet should show itself and a notification when new printers get plugged in. The printers are successfully configured (by hal-cups-utils) but printer-applet does not show itself.

This is because ppds.py has moved.

Attached it a minimal SRU patch for intrepid. Jaunty will get a proper fix from KDE trunk.

I am not yet convinced that this is a good idea for an SRU, since it changes behaviour and UI. Is this a regression from hardy?

Anyway, I would like to get the current kdeutils SRU verified first, before stacking another one into -proposed.

Yes it's a regression from hardy. It just re-enables the notifications which we had in hardy.

Accepted into intrepid-proposed, please test and give feedback here. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

I can confirm that with the version of kdeutils/kde-printer-applet in intrepid-updates, 4:4.1.3-0ubuntu1~intrepid1, when plugging in a usb printer, no popup notification is given by printer-applet. I have also verified that with version of kdeutils/kde-printer-applet in intrepid-proposed, 4:4.1.4-0ubuntu1~intrepid2, that printer-applet does bring up a notification popup that a printer is being configured when a new usb printer is plugged in.

Also, does this issue exist in jaunty or can that task be closed?
