Bug Description

Notify-osd seems to be preventing drag and drop events. I had Firefox open, and tried to drag a link over to an area of my tab bar obscured by a notification. I was not able to open the link this way until the notification ended. Based upon some advice on IRC, I then tested this out with a file drag-and-drop on my desktop to an area obscured by a notification. This did not work ether.

I'm running Jaunty 64bit, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic.

This is likely because of bug #346467.

Can confirm this behavior by simply dragging icons around on the Nautilus desktop. Notifications block the drag action.

This is a tough one. Right now I'm not 100% sure if it's a X11 thing to fix or a bit higher in the stack within GTK+.

It's a bug in X11. Also tools like docks (awn, gnome-do) suffer from the same problem.

So, should I modify the description to indicate this and point it at the X11 package instead of notify-osd?

Yes, please. We'll keep that as a whishlist item to see what kind of alternative behavior notify-osd could adopt to let the user perform a drag & drop operation. Moving the notification, for example.

An X issue we cannot really fix right now. But notify-osd needs to provide a solution to that in the future.

Actually it isn't X issue. A fix for this was released in Gtk 2.19.5 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=608615), though similar fix would be needed in Qt (see http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-7955).
