Bug Description

Machine will boot from 9.04 CD in a DVD drive . (CD trusted as it verifies itself on another machine). At the menu Install Ubuntu drops back to initramfs prompt. Same machine loaded 8.10 from same drive, and would see the drive once 8.10 installed.
So I loaded 8.10, updated all fixes then upgraded to 9.04. The DVD disappeared.

Output from uname etc follows...

uname -a > uname-a.log gives

I just repartioned my disk, installed 8.10 and rebooted. If I boot 9.04 with the 2.26.27-7 kernel my DVD appears. This kernel presumable came with 8.10. If I boot with 2.26.28-11, I cannot see my DVD.

Similar problem with new MALIBAL satori.

After installing 9.04 dual boot the CD/DVD is missing in XP partition. The optical drive works in Ubuntu but it not in the XP partition. In fact; the CD/DVD drive is not even listed device manager now or listed in the registry.

Many posting on the internet about this. No one has a solution except LILO. However, there are problems with LILO and kernel updates so LILO is not a solution either.

Same problem here with Dell XPS.

Anyone know if this is in the works or how to fix it? I can't use an OS that breaks my hardware.

Did you see my latest posting? It was my stupid fault. The config links on
the rear of the DVD were wrong. For some reason that renders it bootable,
but not visible when running Ubuntu.
