Bug Description

Binary package hint: ghostscript

Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release: 9.10
Package source: ghostscript
Version: 8.64.dfsg.1-0ubuntu14

Upgrading libgs8 and ghostscript from jaunty (8.64.dfsg.1-0ubuntu8) to karmic (8.64.dfsg.1-0ubuntu14) gave some problems: I'm no longer able to print anything on my printer (Samsung ML-2010) and also the test page from the cups web interface gives the error:
unsupported format: application/postscript!

Downgrading again to 8.64.dfsg.1-0ubuntu8 solved the problem.

Bye

Please provide the output of the following command on a terminal for some useful printing related debugging information:
apport-collect -p cups 385606

Could you also provide a cups error log with LogLevel=debug with the karmic ghostscript package installed as described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems#cupserrorlog

Thanks!

Install the "ghostscript-cups" package to get printing back working. Looks like that we have to add it to one of the seeds.

ghostscript-cups should be added to the same seeds in which cups is.

It should become a dependency of cups, IMHO.

To completely fix this bug all packages which provide CUPS Raster drivers (cups-driver-gutenprint, splix, hplip-cups) and the lsb package (because the LSB requires that the CUPS Raster driver interface is present) must have a "Depends: ghostscript-cups". Therefore I have added appropriate tasks now.

cups (1.3.10-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add ghostscript-cups dependency. (LP: #385606)
  * debian/control: Add back dropped comma, which led to the ssl-cert
    dependency being dropped. (Closes: #532845)
  * debian/local/apparmor-profile: Allow reading /proc/sys/crypto/**.
    (LP: #335898)
  * debian/local/apparmor-profile: Allow dac_override to cups-pdf. This is
    unfortunate, but required with some $HOME permissions; the profile is very
    tight, so this shouldn't actually considerably increase privileges.
