I have this problem too. I confirmed that this is still a problem with 6.06 04202006 install CD, and live CD too.

I attempted to update from Breezy by switching all occurences of "breezy" to "dapper" in /etc/apt/sources.list, then did 'apt-get update', then finished with 'apt-get dist-upgrade'. Seemed to be a success after a couple hours or downloading and unpacking, but after a reboot I was in the same boat I was in with the install disc.

Now I get the 'l' for linux or 'c' for CDROM screen twice, and it hangs going into "Stage 2".

I have a G3 iBook Original 300Mhz also, with 160MB of RAM.

Anything I can do to provide some verbose feedback?

Ian Jackson and I have prepared three CD images that we'd like you to test, in an attempt to narrow down what's going on with this bug. If you would be so kind, could you please download, burn, and boot each of these in turn and report the results to this bug? Each of them is based on an install CD image, but is stripped down to make it quicker to download and to make it impossible for the image to actually install anything. A successful result will get part-way into the installer and then fail trying to find the Release file; a failing result will probably fail as this bug report describes, or in some other way.

  http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~ian/d/dapper-install-powerpc-stripped.iso
This is just a stripped-down version of yesterday's daily build.

  http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~ian/d/yaboot-test-ordinary.iso
As above, but with yaboot rebuilt on our porting system "davis".

  http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~ian/d/yaboot-test-weird.iso
As above, but with yaboot rebuilt on davis using gcc-3.3.

Thanks in advance!

Both the davis and the weird isos gave the same error as the rc, just that
the davis gave that error and then exited and I went back to the fedora boot
menu.
