I have this problem too. I confirmed that this is still a problem with 6.06 04202006 install CD, and live CD too.
I attempted to update from Breezy by switching all occurences of "breezy" to "dapper" in /etc/apt/ sources. list, then did 'apt-get update', then finished with 'apt-get dist-upgrade'. Seemed to be a success after a couple hours or downloading and unpacking, but after a reboot I was in the same boat I was in with the install disc.
Now I get the 'l' for linux or 'c' for CDROM screen twice, and it hangs going into "Stage 2".
I have a G3 iBook Original 300Mhz also, with 160MB of RAM.
Anything I can do to provide some verbose feedback?
