Karmic Alpha 5
Empathy 2.27.92-1ubuntu3

I just did the latest updates for Karmic, one of which was empathy. I no longer have a notification icon in the top right for empathy. The biggest problem is that empathy doesn't auto show incoming messages from users who you are not already talking to -- it just shows a message in the icon area at which point user clicks and it comes up. Without the icon I can't get new messages from users I am not currently talking to.

Do you have the indicator applet running? (The envelope). By default we don't (and shouldn't) show an empathy tray icon if we have the message indicator running. Only if you removed the message indicator you should see the empathy icon.

message icon is not there, I had the icon before the updates, then I restarted and icon is gone. Nothing else changed. Thanks

If you uncheck "Use message indicators" in the notification tab in preferences, it will display the icon.

thanks, maybe an auto check should be done so that this doesn't happen again. Like I said, I just did an update and then the behavior changed without me knowing why. Thanks

same problem here, but unchecking "Use message indicators" in the notification tab in preferences fixed it

i somehow have the tray icon in 10.04! i even went into gconf-editor to find the "Use message indicator"can't find it.. it make my ubuntu look ugly!
