Bug Description

This bug is preventing the Ubuntu Bug Squad from using one time apport crash reports at present.
The one time enabling has been fixed in Lucid in version 1.9.4-0ubuntu1

TEST CASE (thanks hggdh):
make sure /etc/default/apport is 0
open gedit
send a SIGSEGV
should not show apport-gtk
upgrade to -proposed package
open gedit
send a SIGSEGV
should now show apport-gtk

-------------------------------------------

Binary package hint: apport

/etc/default/apport says:

  # set this to 0 to disable apport, or to 1 to enable it
  # you can temporarily override this with
  # sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport start
  enabled=0

but if you try it, that command fails:

  $ sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport start
  Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
  utility, e.g. service apport start

  Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
  Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start apport
  start: Job failed to start

Please fix the comment.

(I haven't managed to find a way to force apport to start without editing /etc/default/apport, i.e. 'sudo force_start=1 start apport' also fails.)

This is the minimal patch that fixes the problem with one time starts and the documentation of it in /etc/default/apport

apport (1.9.3-0ubuntu4.2) karmic-proposed; urgency=low

  * etc/default/apport: Replace the old init.d force_start command by
    the Upstart one. (LP: #476513)
  * debian/apport.upstart: If $force_start=1 is given then run the job.
