Bug Description

Cant install with posh new installer. Cant use reiserfs either. This is pretty poor! Am trying 'advanced' installer now, so named because its a step backwards I guess?

Can you please attach /var/log/syslog, /var/log/installer/syslog and /var/log/partman (using the 'Add Attachment' link), as mentioned in the error?

Sorry WIlliam, red haze was well and truly down at the time and I
missed that line about syslogs. Ended up using the alternative
installer. Hate to say it but that one is way better.

Its not trying to do too many things at once, ie its just an installer.

It has all the file systems working, ie how did the new installer ever
get through any kind of proper QA without reiserfs???????

It is alot more robust, although it did hang once, in comparison the
new installer - for me at least - failed to install properly even once
with 15 attempts. It hangs and crashes in all sorts of different
places and is generally behaving like alphaware.

Apologies to unload on you mate, but this is no way to win over new
converts to the (k)ubuntu universe. I needed this up and running in a
hurry, and I'm there now, so again apologies, but I darent run that
installer on this machine now. Too much work related stuff on here and
a hell of a dead line to meet.

Thanks alot for the interest though! Keep up the good (mostly ;o)) work!!!

Thanks again, and keep the faith :)

For the record, I believe that the lack of reiserfs is a qtparted bug and not a bug in this installer as such.

Also for the record, see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperReleaseNotes/UbiquityKnownIssues for several known problems that you may have run into. I expect to be correcting a batch of them in the first Dapper point release.

OK I wont be getting the logs back but thanks for trying, and for
checking on the situation re my rather poor report. Seems to be a
pretty good release so far - much upgraded now! Really like the
regular upgrade process, many secuity issues being solved. Excellent
stuff all of you at the kubuntu coalface!
