Thanks

There is currently no 2.4 in Ubuntu repositories.

Sorry! I should have been more precise. That version of Nagios is named Nagios2 and version 2.4 is already in Edgy. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick turn around.

Nagios is a powerful monitoring platform widely used by admins. Currently they defines version 2.5 as latest stable. Only version 1.x are available in Dapper and they made big changes in 2.x but all required dependencies are included in Dapper (I didn't check everyone just relevants, ej: libc6, libperl). So maybe it could be included in backports.

I also second !!!

Current Feisty version uses a ${source:Version} which isn't known in
dapper's dpkg-dev, causing it to error out with

pkg-deb: parse error, in file `debian/nagios2/DEBIAN/control' near line
6 package `nagios2':
`Depends' field, reference to `nagios2-common': error in version:
version string is empty
dh_builddeb: command returned error code 512

This builds fine changing ${source:Version} and ${binary:Version} to
${Source-Version}, however, this would break binNMUs in debian - so is
not a bug, and also would create unneccesary delta from debian.

I'm being advised against making delta between Ubuntu/Debian just for
backports, and also against making delta between feisty and backports,
so I'm rejecting this.

Thanks for working on it anyway!

I'll just have to get used to the idea that I can't have dapper on all my servers!

On the other hand, for that particular function my need is no longer as urgent, so I don't feel let down. :-)
