Bug Description

Hello,

I have just bought a copy of the Computer Active magazine for £5.99 and tried to install the Ubuntu Live CD as a permanent installation. However, each time I run the installer, it's crashing with the following error message :

`we're sorry, the installer crashed. Please file a bug report at https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+filebug and a developer will attend to the problem as soon as possible. To help the developers understand what went wrong, include the following detail in your bug report and attach the files /var/log/installer/syslog

here are the files :

Thanks for filing this. I changed the title of the bug report to reflect a little bit on your problem - I hope you don't mind.

(For the record, /var/log/installer/syslog is the essential one I need in order to get anywhere at all with this.)

Hello Vasillis,

Please find attached a copy of the /var/log/installer/syslog file

Also, could you please let me know where I can find some assistance
with installing the Firefox browser on Ubuntu? I have tried to read
the documentation and follow the instructions but I am having no luck!

many thanks,
Jonathan Marimo

Hello. Thanks for attaching /var/log/installer but from what I can tell the installation completed successfully ... in the meantime Firefox should be default with Ubuntu. If not, you should be able to install it using Applications->Add/Remove
Please don't take this wrong, but we like to keep bug reports in the bug database without support requests - it makes it much easier for the developers to find their way around the bug tracker. See http://www.ubuntu.com/support for ways to find help. Once again, thanks for your report.

Vassilis,

The installer crashing happened only on the first time, but when I installed
it again, there were no issues, so you can disregard the report

thanks,
Jonathan

Unfortunately, without /var/log/installer/syslog from a failing installation, I don't have much chance of doing anything about this. By way of consolation, there's a fair chance that this has been fixed in Ubuntu 6.06.1 ...

I thought I had replied to this a long time ago to say it had been fixed and
the call can now be closed
