Bug Description

aptitude dist-upgrade:

Unpacking libiv1 (from .../libiv1_1.1.3-5.3ubuntu1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libiv1_1.1.3-5.3ubuntu1_i386.deb (--unpack):
 trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/libIV.so.1.1.3', which is also in package ivtools-interviews

TEST CASE:
Steps to reproduce the bug:
1) Boot Dapper, pbuilder chroot is good too
2) Install ivtools-bin (which depends on ivtools-interviews)
3) Set Edgy repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list and upgrade to Edgy
You will get the output above.

Was this an upgrade from Dapper to Edgy? Or was this an update inside of Edgy?

Attached debdiff should fix this issue.

Steps to reproduce the bug:
1) Boot Dapper, pbuilder chroot is good too
2) Install ivtools-bin (which depends on ivtools-interviews)
3) Set Edgy repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list and upgrade to Edgy
You will get the above output.

Please fix in Gutsy first. Resubscribe UUS after you have a Gutsy debdiff. You might consider a Feisty SRU too.

ivtools (1.1.3-5.3ubuntu3) gutsy; urgency=low

  * Add Replaces and Conflicts relationship to ivtools-interviews for
    libiv1 to successfully perform upgrade from Dapper (LP: #57025)
  * Fix FTBFS due to lack of max/min instructions in gcc-4.2:
    - debian/control: Build-depend on g++-4.1
    - debian/rules: set CC and CXX environmental variables to point to
      gcc-4.1 and g++-4.1

Accepted into edgy-proposed, please test.

IMHO this is more or less just busywork now, though. We should concentrate on dapper->hardy upgrades now, few, if any people will care about edgy universe still (if you do, then you live with hopelessly outdated and insecure software).
