Bug Description

Binary package hint: pastebinit

the current default is that pastebins do not expire. For pastebins to expire, the user needs to change the default. I think it should be the other way round, expire (maybe after a week or a month) by default and let the user who wants a permanent pastebin change the default.

setting to fix committed for Ubuntu, will release to Debian shortly.

Stéphane, are you OK with that patch to include upstream?

The max expire period of http://fpaste.org/ is one day. So it's nonsense to set the expire period to 1 month for fpaste.org. Thus the following part of the patch[1] is unnecessary.

Can you provide with an up to date patch, applying to the current pastebins and with Jakukyo Friel's change ?

In a few hours time, I probably can.

I was about to investigate Jakukyo's claim. I tested all pastebins when uploading my patch to Debian and at least it didn't break. Quite often the pastebins *do* support options that are not available from the web interface. And then it's certainly not nonsense. It's almost 4 in the morning over here so I should go to sleep. But I'll work on this tomorrow or Tuesday.

Jakukyo, http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/pastebinit.git;a=commitdiff;h=02e2dbfef280c68a64a576acaff75ba732831335 had been committed within an hour of http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/pastebinit.git;a=commitdiff;h=02e2dbfef280c68a64a576acaff75ba732831335 It's not very kind to call other people's work nonsense when in fact you forgot to check for the latest version or the version that's actually been released to and working fine in Debian and Ubuntu for quite a while. Your comment had been obsolete and invalid for a long time already when you made it. I did test all pastebins and meticulously found the maximum for each one of them.

I've pushed back the 20-set_sensible_expiry.patch verbatim from Debian in r96

in addition to r96, I checked the remaining pastebin definitions. It looks like none of the other except stikked.com support expiry. Added a setting of expiry in 4 weeks as the default for stikked.com in r97. Please be sure to set a sensible expiry option for any future pastebin definition where the engine supports it. Thank you. Closing the ticket as fixed now.
