Bug Description

This happens with totem-xine and not with totem-gstreamer:

Steps:

1) Open up a move in totem
2) Press 'f' on the keyboard or go to view -> fullscreen
3) Move the mouse when in fullscreen mode to make sure that the on-screen controls appear
4) Wait a few seconds without moving the mouse - the mouse cursor will disappear but the on-screen controls will remain visible.

Thanks for your bug. Is that the same issue than bug #41117 or bug #54654?

Seems like it is similar to bug 54654 - although he is running a dual
monitor setup with twinview so I can't be certain. However from the way he
has described it is likely that it is the same bug. If it is, then go ahead
and mark this as a duplicate but perhaps add a note to his bug stating that
it does not only occur when using twinview, but for normal single-monitor
setups as well.

not marking as duplicate for the moment since they are different cases, the other bug might be to update once that one is fixed

As an update to this, I noticed that this bug does not occur when running compiz instead of metacity. I've downloaded and compiled the latest compiz sources from the freedesktop.org git repository and if I play a movie in fullscreen mode, the controls do disappear properly after a few seconds. When I switch back to metacity however the problem returns.

Do you still have that problem with edgy or feisty?

Yes, the problem still exists in Edgy with totem 2.16.2-0ubuntu1 The
fullscreen controls don't autohide when running metacity however when
running Beryl they do.

that works fine on my desktop, should probably be forwarded upstream by somebody having the problem

what focus mode do you use when you get the problem?

What do you mean by focus mode? If you are referring to how windows come into focus using the mouse then I haven't changed the default behavior - the window comes into focus when I click on it not when the mouse moves hovers over it.

If I play a movie in full screen with totem-xine then the controls show up and are supposed to disappear after a few seconds. They don't disappear but after a few seconds the controls are not "active" because the time indicator does not continue to increase. When I move my mouse again the time will update properly to the current location in the movie and it will update for a few more seconds until it is supposed to disappear again. At which point it won't disappear but will remain onscreen with a stopped clock and progress bar.

the focus mode is click then, thank you. The control panel might be masked and your video driver has video refresh problems. What videocard and videodriver do you use? Do you have that problem if you use x11 rather than xv (you can change that with "video.driver:x11" to .gnome2/totem_config by example)

I am running Feisty with the latest updated packages as of Feb 9th.

I am experiencing the same problem with or without twinview enabled.

I also tried changing the video.driver as explained above with unfortunately the same results.

This is a regression in the latest totem package.

I just downgraded from version: 2.17.91-0ubuntu1

to the last one I had before that in my archives: 2.17.5-0ubuntu5

and the problem disappeared.

I have the same problem as discribed here and here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/41117. Using totem-gestreamer or activating the desktop effects fixed the problem.

This should now be fixed, marking as duplicate of #41117
