Bug Description

On a fresh Ubiquity install:

mdz@mdz-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  wamerican language-pack-en-base language-pack-gnome-en-base
  thunderbird-locale-en-gb openoffice.org-l10n-common language-support-en
  openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us openoffice.org-l10n-en-gb
  openoffice.org-l10n-en-za wbritish language-pack-en
  mozilla-firefox-locale-en-gb openoffice.org-help-en-us
  language-pack-gnome-en
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

This happens because language-support-en is apparently only pulled in as a dependency of ubuntu-live, rather than as a task as it should be.

Apparently there isn't a task for -live at the moment, so we're going to work around this for beta and fix it properly after.

Michael: I noticed while debugging this that "apt-get install <package>" on an installed package doesn't clear the auto-installed flag. It feels like it should.

One of the patches I sent to bug 62696 (private due to presence of Launchpad patches, I'm afraid) tweaks cron.germinate to add *-live tasks.

We now have the *-live tasks, and I'm told that livefs.sh started using them today, so this should be fixed with the next build; I'll check and close this bug if so. We do need to remove the *-live metapackages too, otherwise we don't get some of the late-seed-change flexibility of tasks.

Closing 'Ubuntu' task, d-i task remains open.

pkgsel (0.07ubuntu3) edgy; urgency=low

  * Now that we're installing usplash and its theme from pkgsel rather than
base-installer, it's worthwhile to divert update-initramfs and call it
    just once at the end.
  * Use apt-get rather than aptitude to install language packs (closes:
    Malone #62712).
