Bug Description

Binary package hint: dput

[Impact]
Launchpad PPA now support packages uploads through sftp instead anonymous ftp.
But when uploading with sftp dput do not show progress bar (ETA, packages size ...) and do not show any details. Only black screen. So there is no visible method to check if connection is active...

ubuntu lucid, dput 0.9.5.1

[Test Case]
$ dput ppa:adam-stokes/tester testpkg_0.1.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.changes

[Regression Potential]
Minimal, wraps dputhelper around file object to show progress indicator. If filesize is not determined it essentially acts like the previous behavior where it uploads with no indication.

This bug was fixed in the package dput - 0.9.6.2ubuntu2

---------------
dput (0.9.6.2ubuntu2) quantal; urgency=low

  * sftp.py:
    - Add support for a progress indicator to the sftp method (LP: #633109)
    - Delete trailing whitespace
  * debian/control:
    - Suggest python-bzrlib instead of bzr

Thanks. I have uploaded the patches to precise-proposed and oneiric-proposed.

How are these feature additions considered SRU-worthy? Does someone have a sane justification?

Benjamin Drung (bdrung) wrote :

It could be considered as regression when going from an anonymous ftp (which has a progress bar) to a sftp upload.

Adam Stokes, you can request a backport from quantal to precise [1] instead of the rejected SRU.

Rejected from the precise-proposed queue; this is a feature request, not a bugfix. PPAs still support ftp upload, and as far as I can tell dput uses ftp by default for PPAs.

It is possible to backport this fix to LTS versions?

I used tool requestbackport for backporting. it generated new bug report at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254016
