Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok

When I try to play any flac file in Amarok (1.4.3-ubuntu9 on edgy), I get the following error:

   Error Loading Media
   There is no available decoder.

This bug has been hanging around since Amarok 1.4 came out on the kubuntu repositories (post-dapper). There are several bug reports on the KDE bug system that say you need to install libxine 1.1.2, but that version is already installed on my edgy box.

Andres,

I don't believe that this bug is a duplicate of the one you marked. Here are the distinguishing factors:

1. This has a different error message than the other bug.
2. The other bug says that amarok can't play other (non-flac) audio files after throwing the error about FLAC files, however, I can play other files just fine after my error.

This bug is _not_ a duplicate of 56475 as marked, for the reasons mentioned in my last comment.

all you need to do to play *.flac files in edgy ( or dapper ) is " sudo apt-get install libxine-extracodecs " ( restart amarok after this is installed )

I confirmed this with a fresh install and a test .flac file obtained from http://ff123.net/samples/BigYellow.flac

Thanks

I confirmed this is no longer a problem in Edgy. However, I installed (actually re-installed) the libxine-extracodecs package on my Dapper box, and I'm now getting this slightly different error:

  Error Loading Media
  There is no audio channel!

Brandon, were you testing Dapper or Edgy?

I am using Dapper Drake on amd64 ith a fully updated amarok, and I have libxine-extracodecs installed. I get the same error message as Jared Sutton, that is

Error Loading Media
There is no audio channel!

This bug has been the subject of a discussion in the forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1252222), where the problem was identified to be xine reporting that flac files have no audio. The following patch to libxine seems to fix the problem.

http://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=16315&action=view

Ivomans (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1252222&postcount=17), Mentok (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1253322&postcount=18), Jiilik (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1413567&postcount=39) and seem to have built binaries which fix the problem for a great many people.

A later security patch has required a new build for this bug by ivomans (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1585150&postcount=72) and dukeku (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1585289&postcount=74).

This problem affects me because a significant part of my collection is now stored in flac format. I would like to see an official patch to solve this.

The debs from ivomans (the security-patched ones) linked in the above post fixed my problem in Dapper. Thanks Ben :)

Is there a way that we can get this bug re-instated then, since there's a legitimate problem and solution for Dapper users?
