Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

With horror I just noticed a major bug in Natty: Wanda the Fish disappeared!

I think this is is an unacceptable regression, and we can't possibly release like that. Mankind already decimated the worlwide fish reserve to a deplorable rest [1], and in Ubuntu we shouldn't aggravate this. Consider, in a month, when millions of Ubuntu users will migrate to Unity, *millions* of Wandas will disappear into the digital Nirvana forever!

Please always remember our foundational promise that Ubuntu will always be and stay free fishware. This regression violates this principle quite dramatically.

Also, this is not just a community problem, it will also affect our business partners. Dell is relying heavily on FISH [2] for example.

I'm sorry, you appear to have an i8xx video card, you're going to have to buy a new fish bowl and a new fish.

I don't get why so many people want to free the fish. I spend most of my day thinking about robots anyway. When not playing gegls from outer space at least.

I heard rumours that it is actually still there, it just needs a different trick. I don't know myself either, though, but if Didier says it, it must be true, so I'm closing this as implemented :)

I am sorry if I sound stupid, but what exactly is this bug about? Appears to be come kind of April Fools joke. Did it arise from some internal discussion in Canonical? Is it related to the 'no easter egg' messages which come in Alt+F2 Unity Applications place?

Your bug report has been looming over me for two days now. I just couldn't live with the guilt of knowing the desktop environment I use could lead to Wanda's disappearance.

So, I created a project to revive her as an application indicator. I know she doesn't really fit that API and we're meant to be encouraging monochrome icons in the panel, but for Wanda I think we can make an exception.
(No, really, it would be pretty cool to get this thing fully implemented. While it is an abuse of the API, it could still serve as a nice piece of example code for libappindicator in Vala).

Here it is:
https://launchpad.net/indicator-fish :)
Basically just has a swimming fish right now, and it needs some generous soul to contribute the rest.

In my half-asleep stupor I accidentally changed Unity's status. (It's meant to be Triaged), and I can't change it back because of permissions :(
Sorry about that! I'll be quiet now.

That's what it was indeed meant to be. I thought the unappropriate
priority inflation, and the puns and political issues in the
description would be sufficient to give this away :)

Let's start a petition to Canonical. No Wanda? No more Ubuntu users. Sure they're trying to hook the noobs, but us faithful users NEED Wanda to keep us happy. You wouldn't like us when we're angry. (Incredible Hulk reference)
