I can confirm the bug. PrtScrn doesn't work, too.

strace gnome-screenshot freezes the desktop so here are 2 bug-buddy generated traces which hopefully are useful. first is for the 'gnome-screenshot' process - the original dialog, 2nd is for the second process, the 'Unable to save the screenshot to disk:' dialog.

Then the problem is in the Gnome Package, and not in the Ubuntu one.

Is there a bug report on bugzilla.gnome.org?

Amnon82, thank you for working on that. No need to attach packages from other distributions converted by alien to the bugs though. Testing upstream code might be a good idea, installing packages made by alien is usually not since automatic conversion from rpm to deb is not perfect

The patch attached to upstream bug report fixes the issue, I tested patch against gnome-utils 2.17.0-0ubuntu1.

Attaching upsteam patch for reference.

Anyone understood why a '04 bug showed up again?

Maybe Feisty has 04 in his versions number?

@mlind: Can you upload a patched deb?

Can somebody explain me how to use .patch files on .deb files?

That works fine on my feisty desktop now without any patch, do other people still get that bug?

@ Amnon82
Uploading binaries here is usually a bad idea, it may result more broken systems than before. I hope you understand what I mean. Building from source package is safer.

I'd suggest you to check out Ubuntu wiki, ubuntuforums.org or ask in ubuntu #irc channels if you have packaging related questions. We shouldn't spam the bug tracker for unrelated stuff.

I've hit this bug, just now. It doesn't occur with my own user account, but it does occur with any user account I create with the 'desktop' profile. What's going on?

There is one difference though. It doesn't save the file, nor do I get any output on the terminal. THe window just stays grayed out and it waits forever...

PS. Upgrading this user's privileges didn't help. I've created two test-accounts just to be sure. One is a desktop user (but with adminstration privileges) and one is an administrator. They 'privileges' are identical .. only the profile used to create the two accounts are different. I expected these profiles to just set up some default privileges, which I can also edit manually. But it seems there is more to it than that.
