Bug Description

Binary package hint: language-selector

If I select Norwegian to be installed in g-l-s it just shows "spellchecker .." as option. If I install it, I can't select Norwegian as the language I'm using. Installing 'language-pack{,-gnome}-nb' manually fixes it.

SRU TEST CASE:
 * Start language-selector and click on Add/Remove languages. In the faulty version you will see a "Norwegian" language offer, installing it will look like a no-op. In the fixed version there should not be a "Norwegian" entry, but two for "Bokmal" and "Nynorsk".

The problem here seems to be that l-s tries to install a -no langpack, which does not exist. It should not show "Norwegian" in the first place, just "Norwegian Bokmal" (-nb) and "Norwegian Nynorsk" (-nn).

Perhaps this is related to the fact that we still have a language-support-writing-no. This should be split into -nn and -nb, or even better, we should abolish all language-support-* packages (see https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-clean-up-language-support)

I removed the obsolete language-support-writing-no from oneiric, which fixes this bug for oneiric.

For Natty it's merely cosmetical, as you can select Bokmal or Nynorsk from the list already, just the "Norwegian" will do (next to) nothing. If this is considered important, we can do a hack for an SRU which just ignores -no.

Accepted language-selector into natty-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

This bug was fixed in the package language-selector - 0.34.1

---------------
language-selector (0.34.1) natty-proposed; urgency=low

  * LanguageSelector/LangCache.py: Ignore "-no" langpacks. These have been
split into -nb (Bokmal) and -nn (Nynorsk) ages ago, but unfortunately
language-support-writing-no is left in Natty, which causes a confusing
and non-working "Norwegian" entry in the "Add/remove languages" list. In
oneiric this was fixed properly by removing language-support-writing-no.
