The search in dash is slow and freezes.

That sounds like a bad issue. Could you please elaborate on how slow it is? Details on your hardware configuration would help understanding the issue. Are you able to reproduce the freeze situation reliably? Are there certain search terms that trigger this situation? When that happens, could you please attach your ~/.xsession-errors file to this bug report? Thanks!

Olivier,

 When I search it takes a while to display what I am typing. Waiting for the
Dash icons to display might be a way to bypass this, it can be imitated, it
does not keep up with my wpm.

 I have 2.6ghz,and 512MB.

I've also had this problem, sometimes when searching the screen will freeze for a few seconds, go totally black, and then reappear.

Intel i7, 8GB RAM, 1GB video, so I doubt it's insufficient hardware specs.
