Bug Description

If you go to the GNOME Control Center and start "System Info" there is a Graphics option. Inside there is an option to "Force fallback mode". I have been using this to try using Ubuntu 2D, but the option only works when logging into GNOME Shell. Therefore, to avoid confusion we should not display this option when not using GNOME Shell. Yes, this is somewhat advanced but we have a very technical audience and this could cause a lot of confusion and wasted time.

Alternatively, we could actually make this work for the ubuntu-2d session (unity-2d) as well? I'm fine either way.

I'm fine with making it work for Ubuntu 2D as well. I guess my position is we should either make it work with Ubuntu 2D or not show it when not in GNOME Shell.

I will have a look to this one

Some notes:
- the code is in cc-info-panel.c
- gnome sessions are "gnome" and "gnome-fallback"
- unity sessions are "ubuntu" and "ubuntu-2d"

That patch make the code handle the unity and unity-2d sessions, it's not enough though since the feature write a key which is used only when gnome-session has no --session argument used, or in Debian and Ubuntu our session all use --session, it means the feature is broken under gnome-shell or unity, I would suggest just dropping it and use the login screen selector.

Debian patch, I suggest we use that for Oneiric:

" * 90_force_fallback.patch: new patch. Disable the “forced fallback
     mode” switch, since we already provide a xsession file for it in
     gnome-session-fallback."

the feature doesn't even work under gnome-shell current because as explained in the previous comment it only work if you don't specify a session but use the system default one

+1 from the Docs Team; we don't document this button. It doesn't work and it's not worth trying to make it work at this point in the release cycle. In fact, it seems GNOME has moved the session chooser button from the GDM login screen to hiding in this out-of-the-way location which makes things less user-friendly in my opinion.

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-control-center - 1:3.1.92-0ubuntu6

---------------
gnome-control-center (1:3.1.92-0ubuntu6) oneiric; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/90_force_fallback.patch:
    - Debian patch, disable the “forced fallback mode” switch, since
      we already provide a xsession file for it in gnome-session-fallback.
      The option is also incompatible with how sessions rare started in
      Debian or Ubuntu (using gnome-session --session) (lp: #825250)

  [ Jeremy Bicha ]
  * debian/patches/10_keyboard_layout_on_unity.patch: Fix capitalization
  [ Rodrigo Moya ]
  * debian/patches/10_keyboard_layout_on_unity.patch:
    - Use a different icon for region panel, since it was the same than
      language-selector
  * debian/patches/04_add_theme_selection.patch:
    - Ignore not-installed themes (LP: #856824)
    - Add Adwaita to the list of available themes (only shown if installed)

Why didn't you remove the whole "Graphics" tab? Now it shows "Driver" which is also present in "Overview" tab and "Experience" which doesn't make sense on Ubuntu.
