Synaptic can no longer be started from the menu: cannot run "synaptic-pkexec"

Do you get an error message if you try launching "synaptic-pkexec" from the command line?
What about if you try launching "pkexec synaptic" from the command line?

$ synaptic-pkexec

This bug was fixed in the package synaptic - 0.75.2ubuntu4

Are you trying with version 0.75.2ubuntu6?

Still broken in Maverick however; the latest version of Synaptic in those repositories is 0.63.1ubuntu14.

Maverick is supposed to be still supported, so it isn't nice to break it in an update but not fix it also...

@Chris Parker, your problem is unrelated to this bug. Please open a new bug for the issue your are having.

At this point I'm still seeing this issue. This is on a remote vnc session so the terminal is 1. Using xfce4 as the window manager of choice.

I have the issue as well.
I remedied it by setting the command in properties to:

gksudo synaptic
