Is your pulseaudio configuration manual/non-standard in some way?

When I was watching some flash video on YouTube, I tried switch from my laptop headphone jack, internal speakers and my external USB n700 Logitech speakers. There was two options a digital and analog for those speakers. When I switch between all of the options the sound crashed. Had to restart to get it to work again. Sure enough though when I would do the same thing the sound would crash again. I don't know if this is specific to my hardware or if it's some bug that came about during my upgrade to 12.04. Oh almost forgot, my pulseaudio configuration is standard. No modifications.

@Mark, thanks. Not sure if it will help against crashing, but the digital profile (for USB) shouldn't be there.

You should be able to remove it by editing /usr/share/alsa/cards/USB-Audio.conf, and find the
"Logitech USB Speaker" 999

Right after that line, add another line saying:
"Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700" 999

(Including both the quotes and the 999)

You can reboot to make this change take effect.

I had a pulse-audio update that I didn't apply until today. Seems to have fixed the bug. Sorry to sound like a noob, but how do I mark it as fixed?

I original thought the pulse audio update would fix this, but it didn't. However what you had suggested David worked as far as I can tell. I'll keep testing for a few days to see if this bug is squashed. Thanks for your help.

Same crash with a Logitech H800 wireless headset. When I plug the USB dongle, 2 devices appears in Sound Settings/Output:
- Digital Output (S/PDIF)
- Analog Output

When I switch from Analog to Digital (e.g click on the wrong line to switch sound output) I get this crash.

This is on an up to date Precise amd64 system.

This solution from David might work.

"@Mark, thanks. Not sure if it will help against crashing, but thedigital profile (for USB) shouldn't be there.

Instead of N700, replace it with what it says in the sound settings under the digital output. Should say something like Logitech Wireless Headset H800. To edit the USB-Audio.conf you'll first need to press alt-F2 then type in gksudo nautilus . Follow the rest of the steps listed above.

I don't know if this will work for you, but seems to have fixed my problem.
