I cannot open my second address in Evolution that I used to have in XP. Any advice?

Asked by Diana

Hello. I changed my XP server over to Ubuntu last summer and am still cleaning up a few gliches. I cannot get my second address to open in Ubuntu on Evolution. My primary address is: <email address hidden> and my secondary address used to be: <email address hidden>. This second address was used for web dating and for security and protection purposes. My programmer opened the domain name under her account so that a person could not hack my computer and get my real name before I was ready to give it to them. Good way to avoid stalkers in the dating game but now ubuntu will not recognize the new address and keeps getting hung up on the SMTP password--I use the same password as for my primary address.

Have tried many times and so has the programmer to configure the settings in the 'Preferences' and 'Add Address' and 'Edit' features with no luck.

Can you help me?

very best Diana aka loring

The only flaw is now when they search in google this post will show up and they have your name :-)

As far as your problem, I am sure that it has to do with your settings.
Double check your server name, ensure that the security settings are correct, and that the username is in the proper format. Some servers require just the username, while others require your entire email address. An example in your situation would be, <email address hidden> may be required on that account, on <email address hidden> it may just require loring as the username.

Also, with your authentication type(password), check with the service provider as to what the proper type is. As a handy feature, once you enter the server information into the account assistant, you can choose 'check for supported types' and that will strikethrough the ones that are not supported.

If you are still having problems, let us know and we'll keep working on them.

Thanks William!

Made another attempt and I am able to open the

loring address in Thunderbird but still not in Evolution--My programmer

says it is a port problem and that Evolution is not recognizing two

addresses on the same port--the diana merrill and the loring--and there is

no command box in Evolution to change the default port--she wanted

me to ask you how to program in the port number. Have tried already

using a semi-colon and adding the port number th the smtp--

smtpout.secureserver:143.net--and this did not work--also tried

using :25 , 35:35 , :110 as port numbers and still no luck.

Have advice?

That seems very odd. Have you tried to disable the first account and
then do a send/receive to see if it has the same effect. I have not
seen this issue around. As far as changing the ports, your example of
'smtpout.secureserver:143.net' would actually be
'smtpout.sercureserver.net:143' and yes that would set the port to 143
but you would have to ensure that your mail server is in fact running on
that port.

Hi William

Yes have tried to close down the other account and loring

will still not launch--the Thunderbird Mailbox uses the port 110

on the POP incoming mail and 25 on the SMTP outgoing mail...

Have tried to put in smtpout.secureserver.net:25 on the outgoing

on Evolution and no luck....there is a discussion in Launchpad

about which version of Evolution and which version of the account

assistant goes with which port number and if you are using SSL

or TSL then the port can change too.

Except for looking up the default ports on the Thunderbird account

settings I get lost in those discussions and am not sure what to do next...

Have tried every configuation I can and still no luck.

best and hoping you can help .. Diana that wants to be Loring at least 2

days a week-:

As I do not have a godaddy account I am not exactly sure on your settings, might want to check with their support. I was going to say that you might have to enable it in your account settings page with them, but if it is working with Thunderbird, then all should be well on that end. I don't know exactly how to go on from here, as long as your settings are correct, there should be absolutely no problem.

Can you help with this problem?
