Listaller 0.4 snapshots available

Written for Listaller by Matthias Klumpp on 2009-11-27

Since today we will offer precompiled Listaller 0.4 snapshot packages on our download page. Listaller 0.4 needs to be tested before it is released and the snapshots give us the perfect opportunity to receive some user-feedback.
We are miles away from the first beta release, but people who wanted to test Listaller got only the old 0.3 release. The 0.3 release with IPK/IPS0.8 is not really usable anymore, because no packages exist to install.
Cause Listaller has had only preview releases until 0.4, we will replace the generic download page with a "snaphot download-page", where new compiled Listaller snaphots can be downloaded.

PackageKit 0.5.4 and Listaller

Written for Listaller by Matthias Klumpp on 2009-09-30

PackageKit just switched to a new interface API using GLib2, which is available in the PackageKit 0.5 series.
Because the upcoming Listaller 0.4 release will be the first stable Listaller release, we decided to use the new PackageKit API and drop the support for all lower versions.
As consequence of this, Listaller 0.4 will depend on minimum PackageKit version 0.5.3. This means, that older Linus distributions will need an upgrade to a higher PackageKit version, which is sometimes impossible because of missing dependencies. This is really bad, but we do not want to ship old messy code within the upcoming release.
openSUSE and Fedora hopefully will include the new PackageKit version within the new release, for users of Ubuntu Karmic we will create a PPA, containing the new version.
Debian stable is currently unsupported, we will have support for Debian Squeeze.

Listaller API

Written for Listaller by Matthias Klumpp on 2009-08-13

We decided to create a fully-functional API for Listaller 0.4. Listaller 0.4 will ship the new libInstaller library, which will help developers to create their own custom Listaller frontends or which can be used by distributors to embed Listaller functions into their distribution-specific tools.
libInstaller will contain nearly all Listaller functions, except for IPK building support. (We don't want more libuild tools - one is enough)
The Listaller API can be used with C, C++ and Pascal and all newer Listaller frontends will now be based on the libraries.
Check out our mailing list or the trunk source code branch for information about the progress of creating the libs.
The ABI will be stable until Listaller 0.5, but it may change a lot during the development process.

Listaller 0.3b released

Written for Listaller by Matthias Klumpp on 2009-08-03

Today, Listaller 0.3b was released.
This version contains many changes and new features. The most important ones are that we now use SQLite3 as application database and that we completely updated the graphical user interface of Listaller Manager.
Because Listaller 0.4, the upcoming first stable release of Listaller, will contain a complete new IPK/IPS syntax, you should not build packages for productive use with Listaller 0.3b.
Listaller 0.3b can be seen as a preparation release to Listaller 0.4, details are currently planned.
Binary packages of Listaller 0.3 will be available later, as soon as we don't have any problems with the build services anymore.
Have enjoy testing Listaller 0.3b!
(If you find bugs, please fill a bugreport at Launchpad. If you miss a feature, you can commit a blueprint and we will discuss including the feature in Listaller 0.4)

Experimental Listaller 0.3b builds available

Written for Listaller by Matthias Klumpp on 2009-06-08

Last few days we worked hard to get Listaller's compilation process working with Launchpad's PPA service.
Now the service generates proper DEB packages for Ubuntu and Debian. Currently only the development version of Ubuntu, Karmic Koala is supported, but the packages should work on lower versions too.
The builds can be found in my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ximion/+archive/ppa
We strongly recommend you not to use those builds for productive reasons. All Listaller modules are highly unstable because we are changing party of the basic installation process and .ipk handling at time. The PackageKit integration is also not completely stable.
Please use the builds only for testung reasons and if you know what you're doing!
Have fun with our nightly builds! (The builds are updated every week using the newest PPA snapshot)
